3 begins live mobile TV trial in Ireland

The mobile media network, 3, is to trial the broadcast of live TV on mobile handsets using DVB-H technology in Ireland.

The one-year trial will offer access to several live TV channels and interactive TV and promises consumers pictures without delays, freezing or buffering.

3 began using the technology in Italy earlier this year with a service called WalkTV, which 140,000 customers signed up to in just six weeks.

The tests in Ireland build on 3's existing package of TV content including Barclays Premiership highlights, Father Ted and the network's own music channel.
